Organic tea and matcha from Kagoshima Prefecture

“Bringing something new into the world.” With this intention, Markus Hastenflug and Hiroshi Shimodozono founded Shimodozono International GmbH in 1997. Under the KEIKO brand, high-quality Japanese green tea conquered the European market through meticulous pioneering work. The Japanese semi-shaded green tea “Kabusecha” was the first product to lay the foundation for the implementation of Japanese tea culture in Germany. Today, KEIKO offers a wide range of exceptionally fine teas from various harvests. Lovingly produced on plantations in the Kagoshima region in southern Japan. The range is complemented by freshly ground matcha, semi-shaded tea powder, and matching accessories, as well as tea sweets and selected other tea specialties.

At Keiko, quality begins with the cultivation of the tea. Keiko grows 14 different types of tea on its own organic tea farm. Its tea plants grow on the Shimodozono Organic Farm in southern Japan, in the Kawanabe region of Kagoshima. Here, the subtropical climate is ideal for the plants to thrive. Innovative production methods, combined with various steaming and fermentation techniques, transform the raw tea leaves into delicious green tea. In Japan, Keiko is a leader in tea cultivation based on the principles of Akinori Kimura, a modern organic farming method that relies on the natural root strength of the plants in symbiosis with the microorganisms present in the environment.
