The Miumori Kirishima Sencha - A tea of timeless elegance
Miumori Kirishima Sencha is an exquisite representative of the Japanese art of tea, whose deep-rooted tradition dates back to the 14th century. The first tea seeds originally found their way to Kirishima over 700 years ago. But our Sencha is not only impressive because of its history. Unlike many of its peers, it is not descended from the Uji plants, but from the tea plants that were brought to Kirishima from Shizuoka around 1900. These remarkable tea bushes are still cultivated and harvested today by the Hayashi family, specifically Shutaro and Kenji.
In a sophisticated process, both shaded [kabusecha] and unshaded [roji saibai] leaves are used for the Miumori Kirishima Sencha. In addition, leaves from shallow steaming [asa-mushi] and those from deep steaming [fuka-mushi] enrich the multi-layered taste. The shaded leaves give the tea its incomparable sweetness, while the short-steamed leaves develop a beguiling floral fragrance. Deeply steamed leaves, on the other hand, provide an intense, full aroma. This interplay makes Miumori Kirishima Sencha a sensational taste experience.
