Dark green gold leaf from the Okuyame region
Nestled in the lush green mountains of Fukuoka Prefecture lies the idyllic Okuyame region, a paradise for tea lovers. This picturesque landscape, at around 600 meters above sea level, lends a very special touch to tea cultivation. The changing seasons bring cool temperatures and frequent snow, a combination that perfectly supports organic tea testers.
An ideal place for outstanding organic teas
Thanks to the unique climatic conditions, the tea plants thrive far away from harmful influences. Pests are virtually non-existent, meaning that the tea farmers do not need to use pesticides. This practice alone stands for the highest quality of the dense tea growth. The care of the plants is characterized by knowledge that spans generations. The farmers use hand-picked fermented organic fertilizers, known as "bokashi fertilizer", which promotes the growth of the plants in a natural way. The tea is harvested by hand and every step of the growing process is meticulously monitored and adapted to the region's particular climate to meet the highest standards.
This dedication was rewarded in May 2017 when the YAME-SENCHA-CULTIVAR took first place in the national premium tea competition, a testament to the exceptional quality of these tea leaves.
