Dark green gold leaf from Okuyame
Hidden in the majestic landscape of the Japanese prefecture of Fukuoka lies the traditional tea-growing region of Okuyame. Nestled in the evergreen mountains, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, a rare harmony of nature and culture unfolds here. The cool temperatures, which are covered by a delicate blanket of snow even in winter, create ideal conditions for growing organic tea leaves. In this picturesque scenario, the tea plant shows its best qualities without the interference of chemical pesticides, as the natural conditions prevent pests from gaining access to this valuable flora.
Traditional cultivation methods for the highest tea quality
In Okuyame, passionate tea farmers continue to cultivate the heritage of their ancestors by paying particular attention to the health-promoting aspects of their tea plants. The use of handmade "bokashi fertilizer", a fermented organic compost, underlines this connection to nature and ensures uniquely high-quality yields. Each production step is conscientiously adapted to the respective weather conditions and carefully monitored to guarantee the highest product quality.
In May 2017, this effort received international recognition when the YAME-SENCHA-CULTIVAR won the national premium tea competition.
Before infusion, this fine tea has needle-shaped, dark green leaves that exude a gentle scent of fresh grass. After infusion, it develops a golden yellow color and a fine, yet distinct taste that impresses with its clarity.
Preparation recommendation: For perfect enjoyment, we recommend 1.5 g per 200 ml of water at a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius. The infusion time is 180 seconds for the first infusion, while the second and third infusions require a shorter time of 30 seconds. This brewing method reveals the rich depth and delicate notes of this exceptional tea.
