Yama Oku - A tea from the depths of the mountains
In the heart of the majestic foothills of the Kirishima Mountains, a place where nature can be felt in every fiber, the humble yet powerful tea bush varieties that give "Yama Oku" its unique signature thrive. The name itself, "Yama Oku", evokes an image of a place hidden deep in the mountains, excitingly out of reach yet blessed with a simple, sublime beauty.
The shrub varieties Oku Yutaka and Oku Midori, eponymous elements of this tea, are known for their late spring release. This characteristic enables the young shoots to withstand the unpredictable frosts of the early year and thrive unharmed. These high-altitude tea gardens therefore offer the best of a variety of influences - a symbiosis of altitude, cool breezes and carefully selected varieties.
Shutaro Hayashi complements this richness with a carefully considered proportion of the Yabukita variety, which sets an incomparable accent with its slightly deeper steeping. The result is a tea with a gentle, creamy-soft note that is appreciated and loved by connoisseurs. The harmony of flavors is enhanced by the exquisite grading that is characteristic of first harvest teas.
To experience the full development of the aromas, use one to two teaspoons per 200 milliliters of water, heated to 70°C. The first infusion unfolds in 60 seconds, while the following infusions release the essences of the leaves in just 10 to 15 seconds.
Yama Oku tea not only offers a flavorful journey into the heart of the Kirishima Mountains, but is also certified organic. The organic inspection body DE-ÖKO-039 guarantees the purity and quality of this exceptional treat.
